Compellent Storage Center 5.0 is an Enterprise Storage Area Network (SAN) designed to minimise costs, reduce administration, offer high availability and to use virtualisation.

Compellent processes data at block level in a unique way, maximises the use of the physical disks, implements automatic tiered storage (ILM), provides the possibility for unlimited number of snapshots and replication hereof at block level either internally or for disaster-site via Fibre Channel or IP.

One combined solution, which can be expanded without downtime concurrently with the physical data quantity and without having to change product line.

Data Progression (Automated Tiered Storage)
Data Progression reduces the combined storage costs by classifying and moving data at block level between different tiers of storage. The move takes place automatically and as a consequence hereof the need for fast Fibre disks and RAID 10 protection is dramatically reduced.

Fast Track
Together with Data Progression, Fast Track ensures that the data, which is most frequently used, is moved to the outer edge of the physical disks, which provides increased performance on each drive. Fast Track can be used for both Fibre and SATA disks.

Dynamaic Capacity (Thin Provisioning)
Compellent's Thin Provisioning, called Dynamic Capacity, presents the efficient utilisation of the storage system as it only allocates disk space/capacity, when somebody actually writes to the disk. This means that users can create a given virtual volume with unlimited size without having to allocate the physical capacity. This reduces the disk requirements with up to 50% compared to traditional SAN solutions.

Data Instant Replay (Snapshots)
With Data Instant Replay it is possible to create and retreat an infinite number of snapshots to any server in less than 10 seconds through a simple point-and-click interface. Data Instant Replay uses a patented technology, which unlike traditionel snapshots, does not have to create a full volume clone. This presents the opportunity for unlimited snapshots and thereby provides possibility for eliminating daily backup jobs.

Remote Instant Replay
With only 6 clicks it is possible to create a replication solution. As Compellent uses patented technology to perform/make Replays (snapshots), it is only changes in written data, which is replicated, compared to traditional solutions where it is necessary to allocate space on the systems in advance. It is possible  to transfer an unlimited number of Instant Replays synchronously or asynchronously through Fibre Channel or IP - it has never been easier or cheaper to acquire a Business Continuity solution.
